Challenge

Textron Global Technology centre is a subsidiary of Fortune 200 company Textron Inc. U.S.A. The centre was established to provide design and analysis support to various Textron business units located in 40 countries. The design team needed a CAD package that would allow them to model the hydraulic parts and profiles for multistage centrifugal and reciprocating pumps.

Solution

We evaluated several CAD packages including SolidWorks CAD software, but chose SolidWorks for its ease of use. Compared to the other CAD packages, 3D models can be built faster in SolidWorks, and with SolidWorks eDrawings software we can exchange design information quickly and efficiently with vendors. SolidWorks CAD software is also easy to learn. The challenge in designing this model was to create one casting model and four machining models in a single file for proper file handling. The configuration manager and design table were useful in fulfilling this requirement.
